When Is The Best Time To Visit?

The best time to visit Castaway Cay is during spring break and summer. It is because of weather conditions.

There are fewer rain chances in these seasons, and temperatures are in a good range for you not to freeze in shorts or flip-flops.

Just remember that from December until March, it can get cold as low as 60 degrees Fahrenheit at night (16 degrees Celsius) so pack warm clothes just in case.

Other factors include avoiding school breaks since many families come during these times, especially spring break season when schools are closed for several weeks or a month all over Europe and Asia.

What Should You Do When You Arrive?

To start:

  • Obtain a Castaway Cay map
  • Check-in with your Resort Reservations: If you’re booking a Walt Disney World Resort, you’ll need to go to Guest Relations and tell them that you’re staying on Castaway Cay for three nights—they can take care of checking you in for your stay.
  • If you’re not staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, go directly to where they check-in guests (at least an hour before your scheduled departure) and give them your reservation number.
  • Have proof of insurance on hand

How Do You Get There?

Getting to Disney’s private island from Orlando International Airport (MCO). From MCO, you have a couple of options for transportation.

A taxi or Uber will run about $80. An alternative is SuperShuttle; you can book your trip on their website for between $29 and $70 per person, depending on your location in Orlando.

Also, note that none of these options are guaranteed departure times, and all require a bit of planning. If you’re staying at one of Disney’s resorts, it’s also possible to take a ferry directly from select locations at each resort.

This option runs around $50 per person and includes free parking at Castaway—but again, it requires planning.

For example, if you’re staying at Port Orleans French Quarter Resort & Riverside Mill Food Court—one of two stops on the Walt Disney World-owned ferry service—you’ll need to check-in at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

If you miss that window, there’s no guarantee another boat will be available when you arrive at your designated stop within Walt Disney World property later that day or even early the following day.

Castaway Cay cost

The price of your Walt Disney World vacation package will include one day at Castaway Cay, meaning you won’t have to pay extra.

If you opt for a hotel with a free shuttle service or a no-transportation package, an additional fee will apply (around $100).

If you wish to stay in your room, you can also arrange for a meal plan that includes breakfast and lunch for as little as $38.99/adult and $21.99/child 9-12 years old—though that price may increase depending on your party size. A quick service meal case includes three meals per person:

  • A breakfast sandwich or wrap
  • A sandwich or salad
  • Pasta, rice, or chips with a dessert from the buffet counter

What can you eat and drink?

Unlike many other private islands, there’s no cost for lunch on Castaway Cay Disney. Some snacks are available at each main eateries, Mariner’s Grill and Sarge’s Snack Shack.

These snacks include crackers with cheese and pimento cheese spreads, grapes, chips, and peanuts. They also serve beer at these locations.

The Mariner’s Club is an additional location where they offer beer and food from 11:30 a.m.-to 1:30 p.m., including hot dogs, burgers, and cheeseburgers.

For dessert, head over to Scuttle’s Ice Cream Stand or get ice cream delivered right to your stateroom via room service.

ATM accessibility

It is one of the biggest questions people often ask. There are no ATMs on-site, so it’s essential to plan accordingly.

After spending a full week at Walt Disney World, families with children will undoubtedly run low on cash. Keeping some emergency cash in your resort safe (if your resort has one) or visiting an ATM at another location before leaving for Orlando is excellent.

If you need help getting around Orlando but don’t want to rent a car, try Mears Transportation. This service is available from select area hotels and resorts and offers excellent rates for groups of five or more.

Do you receive coupons or discounts

Passengers to Castaway Cay Disney receive a discount on most island excursions. Adult guests who have sailed with a central cruise line in the past year can also take advantage of a unique savings program called DVC Navigator.

It allows you to book Port Adventures and sail away adventure deals up to 50% off retail prices! If you’re interested in that perk, check out their Ultimate Guide for DVC Members.

It offers advice for first-time DVC purchasers and serves as an excellent tool for DVC owners looking for tricks and pointers to save money at sea. The guide has been updated for 2020 and is available now!

Final thoughts

Disney Castaway Cay is a beautiful place with plenty of activities to keep you entertained. Whether you’re looking to explore the island by kayak or windsurf across the water, dip in the crystal-clear ocean, or set sail on a relaxing cruise, this paradise has something for everyone. Be sure to bring your sunscreen and enjoy every minute of your stay!
