Tips for Staying Entertained While Traveling

Whether flying to Orlando to visit Disneyland or to the other side of the globe, you’re bound to have some downtime if you’re traveling. Whether between connecting flights or on a bus ride to a sightseeing destination, there will be periods when there’s little for you to do. That’s why it’s a good idea to bring along some entertainment as a backup. With that in mind, we’ve compiled this list of things you can do to keep yourself occupied the next time you’re traveling.

Play Mobile Games

Smartphones have become our mobile entertainment devices. Besides sending messages to friends and family, most people use their phones to play games. Recent technological advances have even made it possible to play games with high-definition graphics and involved storylines.

A few years ago, not many people would have asked the question, “Are video games a form of art?” However, it’s hard to argue that some of today’s video games are anything less than masterpieces.

If you have a video game you’ve been itching to play but haven’t made time for, then your next vacation would be a great time to pick it up. Get lost in the story, take in the graphics, and enjoy the challenge.

Watch a Movie or TV Show

Depending on your flight, inflight entertainment may or may not be available. Seats on long-haul flights typically have a wide variety of options to keep you entertained. However, if you’re traveling for only a couple of hours, it’s a good idea to download a movie or series to your phone or tablet.

If you’re downloading a movie or TV series from a popular streaming service, be sure to test playback without WiFi to ensure everything is working properly before you board the flight.

A good movie can distract you for a couple of hours, and by the time you look up, you may be about to land at your destination.

Read a Book

If you’re traveling solo, a book can be an excellent companion when you have a little extra time on your hands. Most of us spend our entire day connected, and a book is the perfect way to disconnect from it all.

If you want to learn a new skill, picking up a book on something that interests you is a great way to pass some time. On the other hand, you might be craving an escape and choose to dive into a fiction book that transports you to another world or era.

Since you’re on vacation, it’s probably a good idea to keep your choices fun and light. When you’re reading a good book, time often flies by.

Plan Your Itinerary

If you haven’t planned out all the days of your trip, you can use your free time while traveling to write out a detailed itinerary. Itineraries come in handy because they act as a guide, reminding you of the must-see sites you want to visit.

You can use your phone’s Notes app to write out the details or download an itinerary planning app. Whatever you choose, having the details of your trip in front of you is one of the best ways to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

Listen to a Podcast

The internet is brimming with podcasts on pretty much everything you can imagine. Almost every question you could think of is covered in the thousands of podcasts available for download on the internet. If you want to learn a foreign language, there’s a podcast for that. Similarly, if you want to delve deeper into a historical topic, you’ll almost certainly find a podcast covering it.

Listen to Music or an Audiobook

When you’re on vacation, sometimes all you’ll want to do is sit back and relax. Before you leave home, download your favorite tunes to take with you. Creating playlists is a great way to ensure you have everything you want to listen to on hand.

You may also want to consider taking an audiobook with you on your next trip. When your eyes are tired, you can relax with your headphones while someone reads the story to you.
