The Madrigal family has the lineage of having magical powers since the time they started living in Encanto. However, Augustin Madrigal married into this family. Thus, he has no magical power. He is a person who is very prone to accidents, thus allowing Juliet to refine her unique healing powers.

Background of Agustin Madrigal

Agustin Madrigal and his biological family are the residents of Encanto. He met Juliet, and the credit goes to his accident-prone faculties.

Juliet is the community healer, and she heals people through cooking. Thus, as Augustin Madrigal had the necessity of frequent healing, he met with Juliet in that way.

Abuela Alma, the great matriarch of the family, didn’t like Augustin Madrigal and didn’t want him to marry her daughter Julieta.

But, the chemistry between Julieta and Augustin was so much that the marriage was inevitable, and he became the father of three madrigal children.

However, even after marriage and the birth of their three daughters, the son-in-law and mother-in-law relationship between Agustin Madrigal and Abuela still don’t improve.

She also intentionally tries and keeps Augustin Madrigal away from family matters. Thus, he has the same feeling of alienation that Mirabel has.

Development of the character

No character in a film stays the same from initiation until the end. Augustin Madrigal’s character was so designed that it best reflected the family stereotypes. This partacter underwent most designs and changes before being sculpted into its present shape.

In the initial stage, the studio thought that Agustin Madrigal would also be the head of the Madrigal family and the person who built the Casa Madrigal. However, a field supervisor imparted essential knowledge by pointing out the matriarchal nature of the local communities.

Also, the studio wanted to feature the women in their stories. Thus, they changed their initial narrative of Agustin Madrigal, and Abuela Alma was made the matriarch along with Mirabel as the lead protagonist.

In other styles, Augustin Madrigal had a long mustache and messy hairstyle. He had the looks of a city man.

Personality

Agustin Madrigal in Encanto has no magical power that the rest of his family members possess. Thus, he also feels alienated from his family and feels like he doesn’t belong there.

Mirabel also doesn’t have a magical power, which is unnatural because Abuela’s blood runs in her veins. However, Augustin Encanto tries to console her much.

Agustin was the one who knew about the vision that said their family was going to get destroyed.

After knowing this, he was very concerned and decided to keep the entire matter a secret. Agustin wanted to protect Mirabel wholeheartedly.

Agustin and Julieta have a very close bond. They stand by each other whenever one is in need and are very supportive of Mirabel and her overall well-being.

She is a child who constantly seems to be in agony about her not having the magical powers that the rest of her family has.

Alma is not very appreciative of Mirabel, which Augustin is very aware of. He also doesn’t hesitate to stand up to Alma when the former asks why Augustin kept Bruno’s vision a secret.

He confronted her by saying that he worried about her daughter and it was in her best interest to keep that a secret. This confrontation stems from the fact that Alma doesn’t like Agustin Madrigal much.

However, no matter how clumsy Encanto Agustin is, he always puts his family before everything else and wants the best for them.

Physical Appearance

Encanto Augustin Madrigal has a typical appearance in the movie.

He is a Latino man with slender and tall features. He also wears glasses, a white suit, a blue vest, and also a tie. His hair is slick gray, and he has a skinny mustache and brown eyes. Clothes have fascinating importance in the film.

Clothes and their patterns denote the several magical powers of the family. His clothing pattern is unique and has a mixture of those of his daughters. Isabela Madrigal

Agustin Madrigal has three daughters, and the eldest among the three is Isabela Madrigal. He has a pink flower in his outfit. It is most likely that Isabela had gifted him that flower. Augustine Encanto likes to flaunt this flower to show his daughter’s power and is proud of her.

Luisa Madrigal

Among the three daughters, Luisa is the second one, and Augustin deeply loves Luisa. Unlike other fathers, Agustin Madrigal is a father who knows how emotionally support his children when they are in need. He does that to Luisa; thus, Luisa finds it comfortable to have a safe refuge in him.

One such instance happened during the Guzman family dinner, where he was afraid, alongside Mirabel, that somebody would reveal Bruno’s vision. However, he diverted all the attention when he noticed that Luisa was depressed.

After the attempted happy dinner failed, he didn’t lament over that. Instead, he ran back to Luisa to support her, who was devasted and fled her home because her powers had vanished.

Mirabel Madrigal

Among the three daughters, Mirabel is the youngest and known for her kind nature. Also, she is the only one who doesn’t possess any magical power. Agustin deeply adores his youngest daughter.

He even comforts Mirabel whenever she is upset that she doesn’t possess any magical powers like the rest of the family. During the Guzman dinner, Agustin is the one who helps Mirabel to keep the vision from revelation. After that, he went to look for Mirabel in the nursery when he finally saw Bruno’s vision. Mirable explained that the magic the house was holding was gradually dying and that the house would break, eventually taking away everyone’s power.

Luisa’s powers were also evading, and Mirabel blamed herself for that. When he got to have a better look, Alma called everyone down.

He and Mirabel decided they won’t reveal anything to anybody because the dinner was supposed to be perfect, and he didn’t want to bring up this awful news on that particular day. But Dolores overheard them; they knew she would tell everyone about it.

Thus, at the dinner table, Mirabel and Agustin were both very tense as they worried someone would dispel the secret. Mariano even asked Mirabel why she was so down, and Agustin quickly said that it was just her excitement about Mariano’s proposal to her sister; also, keeping in mind the impending doom, Agustin insisted that Mariano should immediately propose to Isabela.

The revelation of the vision

Meanwhile, Antonio’s animals took Bruno’s vision and made an assembled picture frame. The dinner comes to a wrong end as the vision is revealed to everyone. Luisa, whose powers were diminishing, flees the home as Agustin chases her down.

Alma even scolds Agustin about why he kept the secret from everyone, to which Agustin replies that it was for his daughter’s safety. In this scene, Julieta even stood up to Alma and rebuked her for her rash behavior toward Mirabel.

As Alma goes to reassure the townsfolk, Julieta and Agustin are asked to find Mirabel.

However, they couldn’t save the castle from its impending doom. It started breaking up; the candle also started fading. The little girl, Mirabel, tried hard to extinguish the candle while Casita tried to push everyone back.

Julieta and Agustin tried to save Mirabel, but the house threw everyone outside. Julieta and Agustin urge Mirabel to escape it, but Casita falls, and she disappears.

Reunion

Mirabel then returned with Bruno and Alma; everyone cheered by seeing them. Bruno got reintroduced back to the family, and Agustin, the other family members, and the townsfolk worked hard to bring Casita to its previous luster.
